The days are getting longer and the nights shorter, which can only mean one thing - summer's coming!
Have you got lots planned for the warmer days and nights? A family BBQ maybe? Or a summer holiday to some exotic climes? We've all got something to look forward to in the months ahead and this time of year is one many of us consider our favourite.
When you think of summer, what is it that springs to mind? Is it the blazing sun? Drinking in the beer garden or playing lots of sport? The fact is, we all picture things related to the outdoors when we think of summer - but have you ever stopped to consider just how big a role our in-house appliances play during this season?
We use these products constantly throughout the warmer months, so now could be the right time to make sure everything is in good working order before the temperature begins to rise.
Household appliances and their summer uses
One of the first things that springs to mind at the mention of summer is BBQs. These are a great way to bring friends and family together and no summer is complete without one. But it is our fridge and freezer that allows us to store all that food in the run up to the big day and we'd be stuck without them. So why not make sure these appliances have been fully cleaned before you stock them with your burgers, sausages and steaks? You don't want to be entertaining guests worried about whether or not your fridge is smelling, so use the opportunity of a BBQ to sort through the contents of your fridge and freezer and remove anything you no longer need. What's more, you're going to need plenty of room for all that beer.
Summer is a great time to entertain guests, be it through a BBQ or an outdoor party - so you'll want to make sure all your glassware, cutlery and crockery is looking good. It's likely that your dishwasher will see plenty of action throughout the summer months, so be sure to look after it properly and check for any signs that something might be wrong. Remove the filters and cutlery after every cycle to rinse away any dirt. This will help to prevent blockages in the machine, while scraping all food and remnants from your plates will keep build-ups to a minimum.
Summer is a busy old time for sports, so it's likely your washing machine will have to work extra hard to get rid of all that mud and dirt. Cricket whites are susceptible to stains, so you'll want your appliance to be working at its optimal level to ensure your shirt and trousers are up to scratch. Tennis is a popular summer sport and you'll want to be feeling fresh in your kit when taking to the court, while mums are likely to have their work cut out if their kids love nothing more than a kickaround in the park - especially if they're not concerned about what they're wearing.
