If you’ve ever locked your induction hob – and weren’t sure how to turn it off – you’re not alone.
One of the main reasons people choose these hobs is because they’re safe to use. They have a locking function that stops them turning on accidentally. But it can be frustrating if you’re not sure how to then turn it off. Don’t worry – it’s usually quick and easy to do.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through what to do if that happens. (With instructions for popular brands too.)
How to tell if your induction hob is locked

If you find the controls of your hob locked, you won’t be able to use it. Some models will even beep at you if you try.
Look for an icon like a padlock, key, or 'P' symbol on the display (for example, on NEFF models, the symbol lights up red).
There are different kinds of locks too. Child safety settings are there to stop children from tampering with the controls. While cleaning modes let you safely wipe down the surface without accidentally turning the hob on.
Steps to unlock an induction hob
Start by pressing and holding the lock button for a few seconds.
If that doesn’t work, try pressing a combination of buttons (your user manual will have the details). Look for a padlock symbol on the display and follow any on-screen prompts.
Still having trouble? You’ll need some brand-specific guidance.
